Soil Classification
Our AS 2870 soil classification reports give your engineer everything needed to design the right slab and footing system — backed by lab testing and clear site logs.
Soil classification (often called a 'soil test') involves drilling boreholes on your site, logging the soil profile, recovering samples and testing them in a NATA-accredited lab. We then issue a report classifying the site (A, S, M, H1, H2, E or P under AS 2870) with engineering recommendations.
Slabs and footings designed on the wrong soil class either over-spend on unnecessary reinforcement or — worse — fail prematurely from reactive movement. A proper classification protects your build, satisfies council and is required by virtually every residential builder before slab pour.
