Footing Probe

Footing probe investigations for confident foundation design.

Our footing probes confirm what's actually beneath your slab line — founding depth, bearing material and any existing footings — so your engineer can design with certainty and your build avoids costly surprises.

What it is

A footing probe is a targeted geotechnical investigation that uses hand augers, dynamic cone penetrometers (DCP) or small drill rigs at proposed footing locations. We log soil strata, measure bearing resistance to refusal, and where required expose existing footings of neighbouring or original structures to record their depth, width and condition.

Why it matters

Extensions, second-storey additions and works near existing buildings rely on assumptions about footing depth and ground bearing capacity. Getting it wrong leads to underpinning, redesign, council delays or structural movement. A footing probe replaces guesswork with measured data — protecting your budget, your build and adjoining properties.

Our process

  1. 1
    Booking
We confirm probe locations, access requirements and turnaround in a fixed-price quote.
  2. 2
    On-site investigation
Probes performed at agreed locations using DCP, hand auger or small rig; existing footings exposed where needed.
  3. 3
    Logging & testing
Strata, blow counts and bearing values logged; samples retained for lab testing if required.
  4. 4
    Report
Signed PDF report with probe logs, founding recommendations and site plan issued to your engineer.

What you'll receive

  • Probe / DCP logs
  • Founding depth recommendations
  • Bearing capacity values
  • Existing footing dimensions (where exposed)
  • Site plan with probe locations
  • Signed engineer's report
